The new books are here! The new books are here!
I'd roll around on the books like Demi Moore rolled around in those hundred dollar bills, but the book corners are a little sharp.
I ordered some as review copies for a few local newspapers. This morning I emailed the press release to each... now comes the wait to see if they're interested.
Now that I have my contributor copy, I've read some of the book more closely.
DAAAAAANG.
This is some seriously cool stuff. I especially like the chapter on how to send stuff that's "too big, too strange or too wonderful to fit in an envelope." Like the tree bark postcard. Not a postcard made from processed tree bark -- actual tree bark. Ha!
This is all still quite new to me: submitting art for publication, the book, the press releases. I'd like to thank Tally again for suggesting it. I'm trying to live up to something she told me her father used to tell her: "Try it. The worst they can say is no."

Good phone day
I thought I'd never see the next print run of Good Mail Day -- did I mention the first print run sold out? Sold OUT. Gone. And there was one lonely copy left on the bookshelf at my local Barnes & Noble. I generously left it at eye-level for another lucky shopper to spot and pick up.
(It killed me to leave it there! I haven't gotten any quality time with the book yet!)
The word I got this morning was that the new print run arrived in Quarry's warehouse TODAY, and they're shipping now. I should have my contributor copy, and the ones I ordered for local newspapers to peruse, by sometime next week.
And on a totally different topic: if you read this blog regularly, let me know by joining my two (only two!) Google followers. I need company while I wait for the books to arrive!

No pressure. No pressure at all.
President Obama with fellow Nobel Peace Prize laureate Wangari Maathai, August 2006. Source: WikiMedia Commons
I sure hope Wangari Maathai has some helpful hints on how to handle the pressure of being a Nobel Peace Prize winner. Oy.
I love Obama, but I wish the Nobel committee had waited until he'd been in office at least a year. I mean, it's not like he doesn't have the American economy, health care reform, "post-racial" (uh, yeah) harmony to fix... have I missed something? No pressure.
You know when would've been the perfect time to award the Nobel? In year three of his presidency. "What are my qualifications? Let's see... Nobel Peace Prize on the mantel..."
Good Lord, I hope they've increased his Secret Service detail.

If you're in San Fran this Friday...
... check out the "Good Mail Day" book release party at the San Francisco Center for the Book. One of the authors, Carolee Gilligan Wheeler, has the in there -- she teaches classes at the Center. She and her co-author Jennie Hinchcliff will sign your copy, if you've got one.
I say "if" because the first print run has sold out and Quarry is hustling to get more out the door. I did check my local Borders and Barnes and Noble branches, and they have copies.
This is your official invitation, peoples. And if you're a postal worker, well, then... you're practically royalty at this shindig. I'm gonna have to miss it, but you go and tell me how much fun it was, okay?
